Description
Nachos are a popular snack or appetizer made by layering tortilla chips with melted cheese and often topped with a variety of other ingredients. The most common toppings include jalapeños, ground beef, chicken, beans, guacamole, sour cream, salsa, and sometimes olives or onions.
They originated in northern Mexico, with the most widely accepted story linking them to a man named Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya. In the 1940s, he created the dish for a group of American soldiers’ wives who came to his restaurant in Piedras Negras. He quickly improvised using available ingredients, and the dish was named after him—”Nacho’s special.”
Nachos can be customized in endless ways, making them a versatile and beloved snack at parties, sports events, or as a quick meal.
